Orienteer at Lake Needwood this Sunday

Jon

Course setter, Peggy Dickison, will herself be busy in New York this Sunday, May 13 extending her streak of Billygoat finishes, but she has left us locally with a slate of eight classic orienteering courses (white through blue, including beige) at Lake Needwood, just northeast of downtown Rockville, MD. A high in the mid-sixties is predicted with a possibility of scattered thunderstorms developing in the area during the afternoon so come enjoy the comfort of running in cool temperatures while you can while hopefully also staying dry if you manage the timing right.

Event timing will be standard - sign in between 10:45 - 1:15, start between 11 - 1:30, and be back before 3:00pm. Other details including fairly detailed course notes are posted on the event webpage.

Note: the club's loaner GPS watches and thumb compasses will not be in attendance so this would be a bad event to forget to bring your own GPS or thumb compass.

See you on Sunday!

And let me add: the woods are *gorgeous* and runnable. (yeah and a bit hilly…)

Lake Needwood is not technically very difficult, so the courses are a bit on the easy side. If you’re looking to move up to Orange or try your first advanced course, this might be a good time.

Though the northern woods are more mixed, more green, and with thorny vegetation. Gaiters are definitely recommended.

The course was fun, Peggy, and yes, a bit hilly! -- thanks! Tom did a great job organizing.
